Euroconvention Global is hosting the Angola Infrastructure & New Energy Investment Conference in Luanda on 12 and 13 July 2016, bringing together senior participants from across the business, investment and finance community for topical discussions and unrivalled coverage of the Angola infrastructure and renewable energy markets.
The event will offer timely updates on the country's potential in these sectors through presentations and Q&A. Dedicated networking moments will be held throughout the two days allowing delegates the chance to meet and to initiate business development as well.
Angola is embarking into a new era of development. The government has made significant progress in promoting macroeconomic stability and improving fiscal position, exchange-rate stability, low level of debt, relatively low inflation and healthy reserve. Angola's potential is still largely unknown to international investors and its profitable opportunities in the infrastructure, power and renewable energy sectors have yet to be tapped into.
There is a need for investment in the rehabilitation and expansion of the existing infrastructure. The country's robust economic growth will be off-set by a massive government investment in infrastructure development. Indeed, Angola's rapid urbanization is putting significant pressure on existing infrastructure and the capacity of cities to offer accommodation. Urban development policy and housing are offering enormous opportunities to construction companies. On the other hand, transport infrastructure sub-sectors like roads, railways, air and maritime transport, logistics are generating a huge need for investment, co-operation and international know-how, as well as finance and partnerships.
On the renewable energy side, due to high levels of demand for electricity by both residential and commercial users, Angola's electricity industry is set to boom, with forecasts that spending on electricity infrastructure in the country will reach US$8.4 billion for the installation of generation capacity and US$7.5 billion for the associated transmission system over the next few years.
Among the various alternatives in place are hydroelectric generation, natural gas, solar energy, wind energy and forestry biomass. Just as an example of progress is a recent project to build a wind farm with an installed capacity of 100MW, as well as the rural electrification project Aldeia Solar, which anticipates the installation of more than 90 solar systems in the various Angolan provinces during the current year.
